For much of the last century, architecture celebrated the act of creation. The architect was expected to imagine something new, clear a site and build it. Today, the challenge is different.

The most valuable buildings are no longer the most efficient. They are the ones that make things happen.. Office buildings became machines for work. Retail centres became machines for consumption. Residential buildings became machines for living.
